Snow is precipitation in the form of crystalline water ice, consisting of a multitude of snowflakes. Since it is composed of small rough particles it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft structure, unless packed by external pressure. Snow is commonly formed when water vapor undergoes deposition high in the atmosphere at a temperature of less than 0°C (32°F), and then falls to the ground.

A good portion of our time was spent in the Balu Valley directly behind the Glacier Park Lodge. Our days in the backcountry were followed by evenings of fine dining and various pamperings offered by this beautiful establishment.
Our trip was preceeded by some crash training in Avalanch Rescue with Allison and Sophia. Beach Snow Bettys.
After numerous screw-ups with Mountain Equipment Co-op's Rental depatment we did in fact get a set of ski gear for Allison and Sophia. However the skins were poorly fit to the skis which I view as another failure on their part. I may discuss this in another "post"...
Every morning the girls dragged the boys out of bed and conducted us to "Chris" the friendly Park Ranger for a Comedy session and perhaps even a little information about the snowpack stability and weather conditions. (Lee Lau Photo).
Attendees:
Allison "Allisonator" Mathers
Sophia "Energy Train" Sagur
Andrew "BeatBop" Sauter
Jim "Brain Freeze" Meldrum
Mornings started with photo ops on the "The Bridge". Weird, water appears to be running despite minus 10 C.
I want to ski there!?
I like cheese and sausages.
Singing about the sunshine.
Up Balu
How much farther?
Allison and her friend Ursus Major.
Kenny?
Ursus Major.
Yim.
Mathers, calm collected and blind.
Andrew, charging aggressively.
Sophia, making it look easy.
After a satisfying 3 days at "The Pass" Marcus, Jim, Carrie and Jay took a detour on the way home to examine the snow conditions in Silverstar.
